The USDA came out with a new version of their food guide. As you can see, it is no longer a pyramid. The idea is that it will be easier for parents to “fill in the slots” on the plates of their kids. The general proportions of recommended cereals, fruits, veggies, dairy and protein are pretty much the same. This version also includes a cup marked dairy, to remind us how important it is for our kids to get milk, which is an excellent source of protein, calcium, and vitamin D.
